Ann Johnson was on holiday from France, and visited the museum to view the formidable collection of fishing boat models made by her uncle, Alan Thurston. Alan began making models as a boy in the 1930s with a 6d chisel and scrap materials. His unique collection of 20 fishing boat models take pride of place amongst our huge variety of vessels, ranging from smacks to steam powered vessels; both herring drifters and trawlers.

Alan once modestly said: ‘Please bear with me, but these models are neither from kits nor to scale. They have been built from photos and memories of happier, bygone days.’
